One of the most powerful earthquakes in the world, with the 9.0 magnitude earthquake triggering powerful tsunami waves that reached up to 40.5 metres. There were many nuclear accidents caused by the tsunami, especially the 福島第一原子力発電所 (Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power plant) which spreaded the radiation affecting thousands of residents and causing them to evacuate. Another natural disaster occured, on the 13th March 2011, 新燃岳 (Shinmoedake volcano) erupted forcing several hundreds of residents to evacuate.  I was lucky as i wasn’t at Japan at that time.
